This last weekend, I worked outside of my usual wheelhouse, putting together some video elements and music cues for a locally-originated play, "Bonds With Community", written by our very own John Taylor Busbee. Many of the visual addenda were culled from Greenfield's Sidey photo collection--an amazing archive of tens of thousands of archival photos from the original office of the Adair County Free Press, now curated by Linda Sidey.
I've never before done anything in the realm of legit theatre, so running the A/V on the show was a challenging new experience. It was a wonderful introduction to the town of Greenfield and its people--I can only imagine what it must have been like back in 1969 when Norman Lear spent time there filming the great comedy "Cold Turkey". Everyone was as warm and welcoming as you would imagine small town Iowa would be, and it was also a real treat to spend time with the Busbee family on the road.
And if you ever pass through Greenfield, be sure to get a meal at the Olive Branch, situated in the former office of the Free Press itself. It's all good!
