A Little Midnight Music: "Ephemeral Orphanage"

Updated: Apr 15, 2020

Once in a while, I get to make some music, as I did with the Iowa State Fair jingle, the theme for "This Way Back", and a few other projects.

This one was a special surprise that came my way late in 2019, when I was asked to create some music for the soundtrack of "Ephemeral Orphanage", a fantastical stop-motion short film by Chicago filmmaker Lisa Barcy. Lisa crafted all the materials seen in the film, and spent years animating them frame by frame before a Canon Rebel with Dragonframe software--no computer animation here. Then back in Des Moines, Brian R. Johnson of Lang Johnson Enterprises edited and posted the visuals, and crafted the soundtrack--his expertise in music editing and mixing helped to add even more magic to this already-enchanting piece.

"Ephemeral Orphanage" is, as of this writing, making the rounds at film festival competitions. I urge you to keep an eye out for it--it's a truly special work I'm proud to have been a part of.
